Welcome to our preschool family!

NOW ENROLLING FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR

We are a Reggio Emilia-inspired, project-based preschool for children ages 3* to 5 years old. We teach an emergent curriculum where the child is an active part of the learning experience.

*Independent, almost 3-Year-Olds may be accepted with assessment.

HI! I'M MISS omarra!

I am so excited to partner with you on your child's learning journey. A little tidbit about me. I have many years of hands-on experience with children, including raising six of my own. I operated a daycare for sixteen years, before starting Happy Minds Preschool. I have earned several ECE certifications and graduated from California State University, San Bernardino with a BA in Psychology.

In my down time, I can be found with my husband and children. Whether we're playing games, singing karaoke, dancing, skating, or binging movie trilogies, we're having fun!

My most enjoyable part of teaching is that "what!?" moment I share with a student when they create something so totally out-the-box that there are no words to describe it. It just is. And we accept it That's priceless. Each year, I learn just as much as the students, and I enjoy that as well.

I cannot wait to meet you and your family!

What is a reggio emilia approach to learning?

you'll love our classes!

OUR CURRICULUM IS FUN, student centered, & CHALLENGING!

Every day is an adventure! From our engaging and investigative classrooms to our exciting hands-on activities, your child will develop a love for life-long learning!

We Focus On The Whole Child

At Happy Minds Preschool, we partner with you to improve your child’s Social, Emotional, Cognitive, Language, and Physical skills. Your child will learn to socialize, make friends, develop social and emotional skills, and be more than ready for kindergarten! In fact, kindergarten teachers LOVE our students so much because they're such great learners!

Developmentally Appropriate

Our curriculum is based on the NAEYC guidelines and features a balance of teacher-directed and child-initiated hands-on activities to accomplish these goals.

We also incorporate Abeka and Handwriting Without Tears Curriculum.

We Love Questions

We aim to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive and enthusiastic learners by actively exploring their environment. In fact, one of the best ways we can teach is to ask THEM questions and discover the answers together!

We Partner With You

We assess our students three times each year to discover what areas they're strong in, and what areas still need more work.  We keep you in the loop on what we're working on, and we also let you know exactly how your child is doing during our two parent teacher conferences each year.

Process... Not Product

We love to get messy, and the best time for that is at art time! We focus on the process, not the end product, and use a wide variety of art materials.

Children learn SO MUCH MORE when they have the chance to explore and play without rules of what art "should" look like at the end.

Engaging Projects & Centers!

Every few weeks, we dive deep into a new, exciting project based on whatever the children are dying to learn more about.

We change out our centers and materials to reflect the new project. Our classroom is always changing, and you never know what exciting things we'll add next week!

Children learn best when they are interested in what they are learning so we listen and guide them through their learning process.

EACH DAY IS FULL OF ADVENTURE & LEARNING!

This is the teacher's timeline. It is important to note that it is very fluid. As an emergent program, the children may choose to spend more time in a given area as their interest allows and that's, always, alright with us. Trust us, the learning is inevitable!

15 min. – Welcome, Table Time

We are so excited for everyone to arrive! We get right to working on fine motor skills with fun arts and crafts.

15 min. – Circle Time

Before getting started for the day, we practice a mindfulness skill (gratitude, breathing, observations, quiet time, etc.). We gather together at the circle rug to work on our cognitive, social, language, and gross motor skills with our sharing time, calendar, weather, job helpers and music & movement.

55 min. – Center Time

Often known as “Free Play” or “Play Time,” our many centers include Dramatic Play, Sensory, Art, Building, Literacy, Writing, and Science. We work on social, emotional, and language skills such as using our words, taking turns, being patient, negotiating conflicts, etc. In addition, our teacher brings over small groups or works 1-on-1 with building cognitive skills (colors, shapes, letters, sounds, numbers, counting, math/reading for older kids) based on each child’s level. Our summer camps feature lots of fun science experiments!

55 min. – Recess

Our playground areas include play structures, slides, sand boxes, balls, hula hoops, scooters, and more! You’ll think we’re just playing, but we’re actually working on our social, emotional, language, and gross motor skills as we run, jump, climb, and create games. We also play a lot of fun water games when weather permits!

10 min.-Language enrichment

We understand that there are dual language learners, so we spend time every day acknowledging languages other than English. Each year there is a concentrated language based on children enrolled. Our bilingual teachers speak this language along with English to the children throughout the day as well. Who knows, your child may become bilingual! Now that's fun!

15 min. – Snack Time

We love working on our cognitive, social, language, and fine motor skills as we pour, measure, sort, count, chat, and enjoy eating together.

15 min. – Closing Circle

We head back to the circle rug to work on our cognitive skills with story time and Handwriting Without Tears curriculum, social and language skills with discussing what we’ve learned, and emotional skills. Before getting ready to go home, we practice a mindfulness skill (gratitude, breathing, observations, quiet time, etc.)
